“An Infinite Story. The Beginning”

“The best a man possesses is a dog,” a French painter Tussin Charle said in the XVIII century. One may easily challenge the utterance. But privately to us, life without dogs would seem
somewhat strange and unreal. Unlimited love, friendship, and affection to our junior friends have continued for many years.

In July 2004, a fubsy pawed and flap-eared Eva (Chelobaka Evita Valua) appeared in our life. She looked around the waste of our flat, gave a yawn, and settled to sleep. That was the first moment of Basset Hound era for us.

Eva was not the first dog to live in our home. Her precursors were a mongrel, a boxer, and an English cocker spaniel, Basja. One day when walking him, we met a like-named basset.  When after the walk when we were going home the dogs got very astonished to hear their name from different directions.

Eva’s character – is moderately stubborn, but very kind and loving –charmed all of us immediately.

Two years later, we understood that just one basset was not enough for us. We decided to buy another one. Thus, we got Phil (Grand Twintip Vanilla Sky).

Eva received her new friend very well and we four settled down to live hand in hand. Morning and evening co-walks, feeling of a loyal friend’s shoulder. We were happy and our dogs seemed to be happy, too!

However, not everything in our pets’ life was so easy and carelessly as it could seem from the first sight. Apart alleviated living as hosts of landlords and joyfully walking the basset were working their favorite job – dog shows.

Very soon, Eva and Phil became champions in Russia. Then they started to conquer the world! For the time being Phil is champion in thirteen countries.

After continuous correspondence with Paula Sanebring (one of the leading breeders in the European kennel Swede Sun’s), we bought Katia (Swede Sun’s Qathy). The first thing that we saw at the airport was a cage full of newspapers whereon a small but proud and eared creature was sitting kinglike.

Katia made herself delightful to Phil and Eva in a split second. It seemed they have spent whole life together. Looking at them, we bethought of creating our own kennel…

What does a kennel start with? With a name, of course!

It took much time to choose a name for our kennel: we consulted our friends and relatives, looked for in Internet, in different dictionaries and even in dead language dictionaries. As a result, the problem has been resolved itself; we found the best name we could ever wish! “Buffobass”. The word is translated from English as cosmic bass and matches bassets very well. Indeed, bassets possess a deep and melodic voice and remarkable sense of humor. Additionally, their appearance often evokes a smile on passers-by faces.

While we were waiting for confirmation of our kennel’s name in the Federation Cynologique Internationale (FCI), we bought Rosa (Desert Rose von Hollandheim) and a bit later Dema (Daimler von Hollandheim).

There was not a pin to choose between them: they both are kind, shy, and affectionate. Just like children, Dema and Rosa like to horse around, but they do that very quietly so that no one could notice.

There was not enough room for such big and friendly family in our town residence. An idea to move in the country came to our mind. Indeed, the bassets needed long walks in order to be well developed. Since June 2008, they have possibility to be in the open air all day long, smell environment and greet passers-by with friendly wuff.

Late in August little Fabi (Awesome Liberty Bell of Mushurush) joined our company. Lively and funny, she is “energizer” of the pack. She is very curious and tries to be everywhere. A moment ago, Fabi was eating from her dish, but now she is running to Katia to chew her ear, then from Katia she jumps to Rosa to try a bone what Rosa is quietly nibbling in the corner. And this way all day long.

Dogs from our kennel successfully participate in dog-shows not only in Russia but also in Europe. We have already said about Eva, Phil. Katia has conquered several countries, and Rosa is a multiple winner Best in Puppy in Russia and Europe.

Nevertheless, dog shows are not the only job of our bassets. Many times, they participated in Hunter Retriever Championships. Phil has the International Certificate Blood Scent I. Last year Katia received International Certificate Working Quality II. Other members of our family have the world before them, as they are still little.

And we would like to believe that it is only beginning…
